Mrs. Peggy Chan started her study of Bowen theory in the early 1990s in Vancouver through the two year program on Family Systems Therapy at Pacific Coast Family Therapy Training Association. She has attended 5 years (2008-2013) of the Postgraduate Program in Bowen Family Systems Theory and Its Applications at the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family, Washington DC, U.S.A. Since 2013, she joined the Bowen Center’s Research Seminar group and attends its conferences regularly. She is a member of the Bowen Center’s Network Program for the Advancement of Bowen Theory, and collaborates with other Bowen theory training centers around the world to promote better teaching and learning of Bowen theory. She was a plenary speaker of the First International Conference on Bowen Family Systems Theory in Pittsburg, in August, 2015. She has presented at the 51st and 55th Annual Symposium of the Bowen Center held in 2014 and 2018 respectively. She has also presented Bowen Theory in Texas, Taiwan and China. She is the Coordinator of the 2nd International Conference on Bowen Family Systems Theory held on May 17-19, 2018 in Hong Kong, a landmark event attended by more than 300 attendees and 37 speakers from more than 14 countries and cities.
Mrs. Peggy Chan was trained as a social worker (B.Soc.Sc., HKU), counselor (M.Ed., U. of Toronto) prior to her family systems training. She has over 20 years of experience in counseling individuals, couples and families, and training of professionals. Her areas of specialization include marital and women‘s issues, sexual issues, loss and grief, parent-child relationship difficulties, and cultural adaptation. She is Adjunct Assistant Professor of The University of Hong Kong, teaching and supervising M.Soc.Sc. (Counselling) students since 2002. She is Fellow and Approved Supervisor of the Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association, and Approved Supervisor of the Hong Kong Marriage and Family Therapy Association.
Since the inception of the ISSFI (ISS Family Institute) in Oct. 2002, Mrs. Peggy Chan has conducted many workshops and courses on the systemic way of seeing relationships, and the applications of Bowen theory in clinical practice, work situations and family. She has developed a parenting program based on Bowen theory to the local Chinese community, as well as to parents of substance abusers through partnering with a local non-governmental organization. Mrs. Chan is interested in working with parents to develop greater emotional maturity and better connection with children.
Ms. Livia Cheuk, MAFCFE, R.S.W.
Ms. Cheuk is a dedicated front-line social worker with extensive experience providing counseling services to families and individuals. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Family Counseling and Family Education (MAFCFE), where she demonstrated outstanding academic performance as a Dean’s List recipient.
Recognizing the transformative power of Bowen theory, Livia skillfully applies its principles in her practice, helping individuals and families navigate challenges, improve communication, and build stronger relationships. She understands the complexities of family dynamics and aims to strengthen her clients to create positive change and achieve more fulfilling lives.
Ms. Jean Tai, M. Guidance & Counselling
Having worked in the business sector for many years in her earlier career with a Master of Business Administration. Ms Jean Tai turned to the field of counselling after graduating from the Hong Kong Polytechnics University with Master Degree in Guidance and Counselling. Since then, she has pursued continuous studies of Bowen theory both at the ISS Family Institute and the Bowen network.
Ms Tai is enthusiastic in bringing with her more than 20 years of experience from the business world and her learning of Bowen theory into her private practice. Her focus is to help clients manage their daily life, family relationships, personal issues and workplace relationships towards a better level of differentiation of self and to be able to regulate their emotions and express their I position.
Ms. Doris Tai, M. Social Sciences (Counselling)
Ms. Tai has practiced marriage and family therapy since 1999. She has handled cases in the areas of interpersonal relationships, dating, family of origin, marital stress and extra-marital affairs, parenting, grief, emotional distress, work pressure, addiction, and faiths, etc. She has served as the clinical supervisor of a family service center, part-time lecturer at the seminary, and church preacher. and speaks at workshops and conferences.
She was graduated M. Social Sciences (Counselling) from The University of Hong Kong. She is Certified Marriage and Family Therapist and Clinical Supervisor (HKMFT), as well as Certified Professional Counselor and an Associate Fellow (HKPCA). Ms. Tai has received training in various counseling theories, but has mainly studied and adopts Bowen family systems theory as her framework for counseling. Ms. Tai was born and raised in Hong Kong. She later received education and training as well as worked in Taiwan, Canada, the United States, and Australia.
Ms. Tobey Tam, MASW (FCPFT), BSW, R.S.W.
Tobey became acquainted with Bowen family system theory during her university years. Subsequently, she pursued further study of Bowen theory at ISSFI. Appreciating that Bowen theory is a theory of wisdom, she strives to practice the theory in her daily life and also clinical work. She specializes in personal growth, trauma work, marital struggles, mental health and grief issues, as well as. family or interpersonal relationship difficulties.
She has over 16 years of experience in family counseling, having formerly worked as Senior Social Worker in an Integrated Family Service Centre and as a part-time social work fieldwork supervisor at the University of Hong Kong. Currently, she is studying courses at the Bowen Center in the United States to enhance her understanding and application of the Bowen Family System Theory.
Mr. Raymond Kwok, MASW (FCPFT), R.S.W.
Mr. Raymond Kwok furthered his learning of Bowen theory since 2012 through the ISSFI. He has been a member of the Think Tank since August, 2012. He is an active participant in various courses, workshops and conferences with ISSFI since 2012.
Raymond was trained as a social worker (MA in Social Work, Family-centred Practice and Family Therapy, The HK Poly U) in 2007 prior to his learning of Bowen theory. He is Certified Marriage & Family Therapist and Member of Hong Kong Marriage and Family Therapy Association. He specializes in family and marital issues, bereavement and trauma resolution. Currently, he works in a family service centre and medical centre.
Mr. CF CHAN, MSocSc (Counselling), MSc, MBA
CF is a counsellor, coach and trainer in private practice. He is a Member of Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association (MHKPCA), Registered Member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), and Registered Corporate Coach (RCC, Worldwide Association of Business Coaches). He also works as a part-time teacher at HKU SPACE. He has been providing suicidal prevention hotline and counseling service (incl. inhouse training) for over 15 years and is now an Executive Committee member of the related NGO. He has served the ISS Family Institute as a volunteer worker for more than 10 years.
He offers individual, family and couple counselling in areas of personal growth, emotional distress, mental health, addictions, bereavement, adolescent problems, and suicide. With over 30 years of experience in business and project management, CF has also been offering coaching service for more than 10 years to help clients in personal growth, self-awareness and career development. He also conducts training workshops on holistic wellness, communication strategies and counselling skills for NGOs, private enterprises and government departments.
